Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes offer teen and adult students a chance to become competent grapplers, both for sport and for self-defense. Students will learn to use leverage and technique to function in standing and grounded situations against larger, stronger opponents. Brazilian Jiujitsu is a highly competitive Martial Art, recently made popular by the Ultimate Fighting Championships and other such mixed Martial Arts events.
In this class students learn about offense and defense in grounded movement and positioning, as well as submission techniques such as chokes and armbars. Students also learn about takedowns and throws, wrestling, and ways to condition their bodies for the rigors of training.
Meeting on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, these classes are led by Kelii Sipin and Anthony Sell. This program is affiliated with Sensei Henry Matamoros, who is a black belt under Professor Pedro Sauer.
